Tan Sri Ong Tee Keat Joins Taihe Institute as Senior Fellow

On March 23, 2023, Mr. Ong Tee Keat joined Taihe Institute (TI) as a senior fellow.

 

Tan Sri Ong Tee Keat is a second-generation Chinese Malaysian, whose ancestral home Wenchang is in Hainan Province, China. Currently, Mr. Ong Tee Keat is the Chairman of the Centre for New Inclusive Asia (CNIA), President of the Malaysia-China Silk Route Business Chamber and President of Yayasan Bakti Nusa Malaysia. He used to serve as Deputy Speaker of the Lower House (Dewan Rakyat) of the Malaysian Parliament, Minister of Transport of Malaysia, and Executive Council Member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

 

 

In recent years, Mr. Ong Tee Keat has promoted connectivity and people-to-people exchanges among countries along the "Belt and Road" region via chambers of commerce and think tanks. Under his leadership, CNIA has also become a global partner of the Belt and Road Studies Network, and a strategic cooperation partner of the National Institute for Global Strategy of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Institute of State Governance of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

 

The joining of Mr. Ong Tee Keat will further enhance TI's research capabilities in terms of Southeast Asian studies, and improve people-to-people exchanges between China and Malaysia.
