About Us

Introduction of Taihe Institute

Taihe Institute (TI) is an independent, non-profit organization based in Beijing. Established in 2013, our mission is to provide informed analysis and opinion by way of in-depth research and be a main source of new ideas to help interested people better understand China and the rest of the world.

To accomplish this mission, Taihe Institute gathers leading thinkers, intellectuals, policy and decision-makers and practitioners and encourages them to seek common values and solutions to the problems facing the global society and mankind.

Our mission is accomplished by bringing the results of their dedicated investigation to a think tank of intellectual vigor and innovative ideas in an environment of common and constructive values. Optimal harmony and efficient multilateral relationships are achieved by putting humanity’s ambitions and peaceful global governance front and center. Inclusive parameters and goals lead to integrated solutions for united community of nations.

Taihe Institute’s mission aims to broaden the parameters of mutual understanding and bilateral and multilateral cooperation for better and harmonious inter-state and multi-actor relations.

We undertake research into trends affecting global affairs and the international perception of China. Through in-depth analysis and expert insights, we have become a primary source of ideas and intellectual support in the creation of stronger universal ties.

TI focuses its research on five areas: international relations, economics and finance, science and technology, education and culture, and ethnicity and religion.

Our members and fellows subscribe to the most rigorous research principles and the highest academic standards.  Taihe Institute’s professional ethics ensure unbiased views on a wide range of local, national, and global issues. We accept commissions from all levels of government and private industry interested in economic and social development on the path to advanced human welfare and prosperity.

As a stakeholder in managing the increasingly complex and challenging international environment, we actively collaborate with like-minded agencies and institutions. We publish our research and proposals through media partners and our internal programs, including a regular digital journal in English, the TI Observer. Major findings are published in the form of the TI Library.

TI has forged links with nearly 100 prominent organizations at home and abroad through academic exchange and other unofficial events, including the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, the China Public Diplomacy Association, the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, the China Education Association for International Exchange, UNESCO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretariat, the Brookings Institution, the National Committee on United States–China Relations, the Eisenhower Foundation, and the European Academy.

Taihe Institute has created joint research centers and mechanisms with Peking University, Nankai University, East China Normal University, Hunan University, Xiangtan University, and several other institutes of higher education. It is also a member of the International Belt and Road Studies Network and the International Alliance for Green Development under the Belt and Road Initiative. Taihe Institute serves as chair for the committee of the China–U.S. Young Innovators Exchange Center.

In 2017, with the aim of exploring common values and seeking harmonious development around the theme of pursuing science, culture, future ethics, and common values, Taihe Institute launched the annual Taihe Civilizations Forum. The Forum has already become an important platform for academic exchange and public diplomacy. In 2019, Taihe launched the Taihe Young International Scholars Alliance (TYISA), which provides a new platform for young Chinese and foreign scholars to interact and grow their understanding of each other.

Taihe Institute opens its arms and offers its resources to all parties who share a vision of collective universal cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
